Awakening Mind, Opening Heart: Sunday Meditation Practice & Study/Teachings

  • 20 Jul 2014
  • 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM
  • 34207 Pacific Coast Highway (2nd Floor), Dana Point, CA 92629
Sundays at the Shala:
Afternoon Meditation Practice Study Group
"Awakening Mind, Opening Heart:
the Attitude Transformation Tradition"

This weekly session explores different aspects of meditation practice from those covered in the regular Tuesday evening meetings.

As usual, we will practice in the Dzogchen tradition of Nyoshul Khenpo Rinpoche and Lama Surya Das.

We are continuing the new series: Awakening the Mind and Opening the Heart, based on the mind training and attitude transformation teachings of the Tibetan lineage.

An introduction to these teachings can be found in Lama Surya's book Awakening the Buddha Within (under Step Two: Right Intentions) at Page 151.

Each week we will continue
examining and practising these extraordinarily skillful ways of transformation in our lives.

This Sunday we will start Training in the Relative Mind of Awakening:

Maxim 7, "Train in giving and taking alternately"

Maxim 8, "Breathe out the giving, breathe in the taking"

(these represent the legendary practice of Tonglen)

This session is a wonderful opportunity for discussion and meditation practice in a group setting, and to connect with this timeless contemplative tradition in a deeper way through study of texts from this lineage of teachers.

It is entirely appropriate for those new to meditation, as well as those more experienced.
This activity is offered free of charge, and is open to all.

Donations in honor of this generously-offered sacred space are welcome: our kind hosts use them to support Tibetan Buddhist monasteries in India.
